1Transformer connection to PCB Empty Transformer connection to PCB Sun Apr 26, 2009 4:23 pm

Sorry to make newbie questions.....
I have finished soldering and I'm ready to connect and test.....
One doubt: I can see that 2 of the 4 transformer pins on the PCB are tied (the central 2 pins of J2P and J1P).
I'm going to connect toroid's with dual secondaries (not center tapped) to these . There are phase indications on these trafo's that I have (indicated by a "dot" on each secondary). Am I to tie together 2 "dot's" or 1 "dot" + 1 "non-dot"
Thanks,
Nic

Indeed, these transformers often have two separate secondary windings. To connect such transformers, the PCB provides terminals for all four wires, as to obtain a neat layout. To find out the proper connections, you can connect one wire-end of each winding in a test-setup (not yet connected to the PCB). If you apply a primary voltage to the transformer, you can measure with an AC voltmeter the voltage between the other two ends of the windings (the two open ends). If you measure somewhat beyond the sum of the supposed secondary voltages you have done right. Alternatively, you would measure almost no remaining voltage, indicating that you made the wrong connect choice. In your case I would guess that you would need to connect one 'dotted' with one 'non dotted'.
